Hey guys, just wanted to give you a heads up that I'll be moving this blog over to the fan collective on adultswim.com at SwimBuddha's request. The FC is this cool new thing that does not in any way resemble friendster/facebook/myspace and is brought to you from the makers of fargate and findependence day. [/end bad athf joke]
Anyway, if you're still interested in knowing what a typical college rep does, go over to www.adultswim.com, hit up the fan collective and Browse-All for "Stacy" or "SwimAggie." While you're over there, hit up the message boards and say hello :)

Well, I had lunch with my partner today, and we're both REALLY excited about the trip at Atlanta. We both leave tomorrow, from two different airports that are about 20 minutes from each other, at the exact same time.. I don't know why, either. We get into Atlanta at about 10, and then we're free for the night. I'm working on finding us some Atlanta natives to show us around town, but if all else fails, we can always just find the other reps and hang out. Official [adult swim] mania starts Thursday at noon. Our tour of Williams Street is Friday, and those guys are already cooking up ways to "initiate" us into the [as] cult (did i hear someone say jumping jacks?). Afterwards is the rep/staff party, which I suspect to be a mix of drunken revelry, shameless networking, and all around good times. Again, I'll try to update in Atlanta if I can, but if not, expect details on the 20th! |

| My packet has arrived! |
[Aug. 11th, 2005|03:29 pm] |
Today I received the packet with all the information from my trip. I'll be heading out to Atlanta on the evening of the 17th, and returning on the evening of the 20th. In the packet, we also got some "homework" that asks us specific things about our school: major events, local bars and radio stations, trends, publications, etc. I'm guessing that this is basically just so that we have thought about all of this so that when we arrive, we can focus on planning instead of brainstorming. I also received two fun little items... a token to ride the train to our hotel once I fly in ::

And a really cool official tag ::

I'm not sure what the purpose of the tag is, other than to just be something awesome for us to have, but whatever!! Our boss Mike (College Rep Program Manager and former rep himself) told us that we'll be in business casual all week, which is a surprise. I was getting ready to stock up on AS shirts so I could "fit in" (I only have three.. I know, so pathetic.. What kind of rabid, bump-obsessed, anime-hating [as] fan am I, anyway???). I think I'm probably the only rep in the entire program who is really excited about this.. I pretty much live in business casual, so I'm ready. Bring it on, Adult Swim. Bring. It. On.
Oh yeah, and apparently we need to watch [as] every night this week, as there may or may not be a pop quiz, "especially if you're not really familiar with the programming." My head exploded a little bit at that, because I can't imagine anyone getting this job and not being obsessed with [as]... Then again, I can't imagine someone not being obsessed with [as].. People like that exist?? That's crazy talk.
I probably won't update again until I get to Atlanta, the night of the 17th, and that's only if there's internet access in or near the hotel. I'll do my best to keep you guys in the loop.

| Here's the story, of a gal named Stacy. |

| | excited | ] | Well Howdy! I've started this LiveJournal as a sort of scrapbook for my year as an [adult swim] college rep. I have a lot of reasons for doing this.. Number one, there's not a lot of information out there about the rep program. When I applied, I honestly had no clue what I was applying for. Hopefully, when next summer comes around, this page can help people interested in the program know more about it, so they can decide if it's right for them. Also, a lot of [as] fans are either in high school, already out of college, attend a small college, or for whatever reason can't be a rep, so this gives them the chance to live vicariously through me. Plus, I need to do a good deed for the year to make up for all that... other stuff... .............
So here's the backstory.. Way back in about April of last year, as I was watching [adult swim] at probably 1 in the morning, I saw a bump advertising the college rep program. By some freak twist of fate, my school was one of the few schools they were targeting, so I immediately went online and filled out the application. I had no clue what a rep did, and although I had searched the adultswim.com message boards for more info, it seemed like they were as clueless as I was. Regardless, I applied anyway and kind of forgot about it.
Then, a few weeks later, I got a call from SJI, inc., the company that handles the college rep program, letting me know that I had received an interview. They came to my school and interviewed several people, but for whatever reason, I actually had to do a phone interview about a week later. I don't really want to say what the questions were, because that wouldn't really be cool for SJI, but I will say that they were pretty standard interview questions. I had gone to my school's career center the week before for a mock interview and they had given me a copy of the most frequently asked interview questions, and that was really good preparation.
A couple of days later, I got a phone call from SJI asking me to be a rep! Totally one of the best days of my life thus far. That was the day when I actually learned what I would be doing. Usually there are two or three reps per campus (A&M has two), and they hold three events per semester. The first event is a poster sale type thing, when you basically just give away swag and merchandise from the shows. The second is an advance screening, where they send us DVDs of unaired shows, and we hold a big party to show them. The third is a bar crawl, where we pick a local bar and basically just take over the place, decorate it with [as] stuff, give away merch, show the DVDs, etc. The perks of the jobs include a free trip to Atlanta to meet all the guys at Williams Street and a small fee for each event completed. Again, I'm not going to say how much we get paid, because SJI probably doesn't want that advertised, but I will say it's not anything that's gonna pay the bills. It's basically just to compensate you for the time you spend planning and hosting the events.
Right now, I'm getting ready for training in Atlanta, which occurs on August 18-20. I don't know if I'll have internet access there, but if I do, I'm going to try to update every day to keep you all posted on what's up. If you have any questions, feel free to comment and I'll answer them ASAP! I also kind of slink around the adultswim.com message boards as SwimAggie, although I don't post very much. If you see me over there, say hi! And be nice, I'm just a lowly n00b.
